Hyderabad: Magicpin, a hyperlocal startup, reported a surge in food delivery orders to 10 lakhs during the cricket World Cup matches on the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) network. This marked a more than twofold increase compared to the monthly average. The company disclosed that during the India versus Pakistan match on October 14, they delivered 35,000 food orders. The orders peaked at 50,000 on a single day during the India versus Australia match.
In a statement, Magicpin highlighted that they surpassed 10 lakh food delivery orders between October 5 and November 19, attributing this spike to ONDC's rising demand on their buyer app and other significant platforms like Paytm, Phonepe's Pincode, and Ola. The company had previously announced discounts worth Rs 50-100 crore for cricket fans during the World Cup, covering food delivery, dining out, fashion, and groceries.
Anshoo Sharma, CEO and co-founder of Magicpin said, "I'm incredibly proud to have witnessed the record-breaking number of 10 lakh orders on Magicpin under the ONDC umbrella this past month and half. This milestone reflects our collaboration with the ONDC team and the combined relentless efforts to provide the best local discovery and rewards platform for the cricket lovers and Indians celebrating Diwali, other festivals.”
Magicpin had previously reached 30,000 orders a day in June and claimed an average monthly order of around 4 lakhs before the World Cup. Sharma emphasized that this milestone reflects the substantial growth of their food delivery business, experiencing a two-fold increase month-on-month.
